MutrikuThis is a very intense left located between Mutriku and Deba, a high-quality point break in an extremely beautiful rocky cove. It has a critical take-off, which is also the most powerful part of the wave. You access the wave from on top of the cliff and it is visible from the road. DebaOne of the Basque Coast´s biggest waves can be found on Deba Beach. A right-hander known as Sorgin –Zulo, extremely powerful and which is surfable up to 15 ft . One of the unmissable winter surfing destinations. Its sand and rock bottom makes it even more dangerous. On days when the sea is not so big there are various peaks along the length of the beach and closer to the shore, which depending on the state of the seafloor can provide good sessions. There is a local surf club. ZumaiaThere are right-hand and left-hand waves that vary depending on the tides. The western part of San Telmo Beach requires a higher level of skill because of its sand and rock bottom. At high tide here a wave forms close to the shore that bounces off the cliff and creates excellent ramps for bodyboarders. On this beach, which is presided over by the hermitage of the same name, there are some examples of flysch, beautiful geological formations of great scientific value which are numerous on this stretch of the Basque Coast. OrruaThe wave at Orrua, located in the cove of the same name, is one of the highest-quality breaks on the coast of Gipuzkoa province. Its rocky seafloor creates good tube-riding sections both right and left. It is surfable up to 6 ft . If the waves get higher than that, Orrua´s elder sister, Roka Puta, starts to break. Roca putaOne of the Basque Coast´s splendid big waves, a very powerful right-hander which can reach 15 ft in height. The local big wave riders´ greatest feats have been achieved at this spot. The wave can be seen from the road and has become a spectacle for fans. The left is also surfable and generates more barrels, but it is dangerous, as it breaks nearer the coastline. Playa grisThe tow-in wave par excellence, although it has also been surfed without a jetski, paddling in the traditional way. Here the biggest and most intense surf sessions in the history of Basque surfing have taken place, and the images have been seen the world over: waves over 30ft., surfed by the best tow-in teams in Europe. On more than one occasion this wave and its protagonists have been nominated for the World XXL Big Wave Award, the most prestigious in the world. If it is breaking, it is definitely not to be missed! GetariaAlthough the right-hander stands out especially on big days, the beach also has other waves like the left near the rocks and the waves close to the shore in high tide. It has a sand and rock bottom with slabs that are dragged from one place to another. It faces east and depending on the state of the seafloor can provide excellent sessions. There is a surf club on the very pretty beach. ZarautzThe reference point for all Guipúzcoa province´s coast, and one of the best breeding grounds for surfers in Europe. It is the longest beach on the Basque Coast and has multiple breaks. It is ideal for complete beginners and has more than 5 schools, with one of the most active surf clubs on the coast. It holds several competitions during the year, the most famous of which is the World Qualifying Series in September. Going from west to east, there are the peaks in the port area (which breaks when the waves are more than 6 ft.) , then we have La Marina and Argiñano, the true epicentres of the beach, and finally El Canal, slightly further away at the eastern tip which provides quality sessions. The surfing atmosphere in Zarautz is incredible, especially in the Argiñano area and the centre of the village.
